Designed in the late 1950s and early 1960s for Sibast, the Arne Vodder range includes an authentic selection of some of the architect’s finest pieces. It has been an absolute pleasure for Great Dane to have worked alongside Arne in bringing these designs into the modern contemporary world of today. But how great these designs are, to still maintain so much strength against todays cutting edge design.
A feature of most of his pieces, Vodder's trademark drawers reflect a shift towards the organic shapes of the early 1960s. The soft, curved shape was designed to fulfill his desire to create a less obvious handle; a line that was smooth and pleasant to touch but remained part of the piece.
"I wanted to create a drawer that hand no protruding metal handle or form," Arne says, when asked about his inspiration. "I designed a shape that you could run your fingers along but that was concealed so that the drawer felt like one long shape - an organic form."
For the contemporary incarnation of the Vodder range, Arne and Anton have chosen to craft the pieces in European oak and American walnut.
